Aspect
A verb's Aspect is its expression of time flow. Unlike tense, which focuses on a verb's position within time, aspect focuses on the characteristics of that time flow where it occurs.
Perfect aspects
Habitual aspects
POS tag: <habitual-aspect>
he habitual aspect denotes actions which are repeated habitually at a specific time or period of time.It is denoted by adding the suffix ആറ് to the verb stem followed by the be verb ഉണ്ടു on which the tense is marked.
Examples
- വരുക => വരാറുണ്ട്, വരാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു etc
- പോകുക => പോകാറുണ്ട്
Iterative aspects
An action is viewed as a series of repeated events in the iterative aspect. It is derived from the past stem by adding കൊണ്ടു + ഇരിക്ക് + tense suffix. It can be in past, present or future time.
POS tag: <iterative-aspect>
This is used to indicate citation form. Add കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുക to the past form of the verb.
Examples
- വരുക => വന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുക
- പോകുക => പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുക
Iterative past aspect

This is past tense form of Iterative aspect, obtained by suffixing കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു to past form of verb.
Examples
- വരുക => വന്നുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു
- പോകുക => പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു
Iterative present aspect
POS tag: <iterative-present-aspect>
This is present tense form of Iterative aspect, obtained by suffixing കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു to past form of verb.
Examples
- വരുക => വന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു
- പോകുക => പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു
Iterative future aspect

This is future tense form of Iterative aspect, obtained by suffixing കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും to past form of verb.
Examples
- വരുക => വന്നുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കും
- പോകുക => പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും
Emphatic Iterative aspect
In this aspect the action is shown as happening without break. Past stem is followed by കൊണ്ടേയിരിക്ക് + tense suffix.
POS tag: <emphatic-iterative-past-aspect>, <emphatic-iterative-present-aspect>, <emphatic-iterative-future-aspect>

- വരുക => വന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരുന്നു, വന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കുന്നു, വന്നുകൊണ്ടേയിരിക്കും
